2016, You are the Seed

Location: Underpass at Locust Street in Flatbranch Park, Columbia, MO

Piloted in 2016, Resident Arts is contracted with the City of Columbia’s Department of Parks and Recreation to complete 8 murals along the downtown extension of the MKT Trail from Locust St. at Flat Branch Park to  Stewart Rd. at Providence Rd. with the CARE Art Gallery Program.

“You are the Seed” was created to celebrate the diversity of Columbia while acknowledging that we must overcome our challenges to grow into a better version of ourselves. The mural features Darwin Hindman, former mayor of Columbia, who spearheaded the Rails to Trails initiative as well as patterns and symbols from Islamic culture that represent life and infinite wisdom. Columbia’s community is shown pulling one another out of the soil, overcoming challenges, and working together, through activism, to bring a message to the view, “Let Our Challenges Inspire Us to Grow”
